Consent

What consent means for GloopGlop governance.

Under GloopGlop Bylaws Article 5, the Cooperative makes decisions by consent unless the membership decides otherwise.

Consent is not the same as unanimous enthusiasm. It is a practical standard for moving forward together while respecting every member’s voice.

How decisions are made

  1. A member presents a proposal in a meeting or other process open to the membership.
  2. Members ask clarifying questions and suggest amendments.
  3. The facilitator checks for objections: “Do you have a reasoned objection?”
  4. If there are no reasoned objections, the proposal is adopted. If there are, the group works to address them and may bring a revised proposal back.

Consent works alongside one member, one vote and democratic participation described in the bylaws.

Consent and one member, one vote

Each member has one vote and the right to participate in governance. Consent defines how the membership reaches decisions in ordinary business: by looking for alignment and surfacing real risks, not by requiring everyone to agree for the same reasons.

The membership may adopt different rules for specific decisions (for example, elections or major changes) by consent or as otherwise provided in the bylaws.
